Hi Fellas,
Just bought my first brand new truck. Just happened to be a silver 09 1500 Crew Cab Big Horn with the Hemi. I test drove one back in the spring and just loved it. I was finally able to make a deal on one a couple days ago. With the truck I got the lifetime oil changes the dealer was offering($499.00). I figured it would be the best choice with the lifetime warranty. I researched quite a bit before I decided to commit to this truck. All in all the truck was pretty hard to beat. (As you know already.)
Just a couple of questions though. I was wondering if a cold air intake is worth it as far as fuel economy goes? Is a standard K&N sufficient for better MPG?
I'll appreciate any tips or suggestions you guys might have. Happy to be apart of the Dodge family.

Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan! Welcome. the Big Horn Ram is absolutely kickass.

Any time you can make your truck breath better thru intake and exhaust you'll improve performance (tho, probably not to the level that some of these manufacturers claim). I think K&N has dyno charts on their website somewhere.

Welcome Dan! Glad to have ya, and gratz on the truck!!

A CAI for fuel economy... not so much in my experience. Like Rapid says though, any time you can improve your engine's ability to breathe, you're helping it work more efficiently which (in theory) should translate to more power at the wheels. Its in that sense that you might improve fuel economy a bit (less pedal needed to achieve speed). But I dunno that you'll see it at the pump.

A CAI is a great mod for looks and sound. And if nothing else is done to the truck, the addition of a CAI might help in the power department a bit. Just don't expect much and you might be surprised.

Got any pics of your Big Horn??

She is pretty stock still. I don't plan on doing anything to dramatic. I will be getting some new rims and tires for hunting and winter driving.
Thanks for the advice I will probably just go with the regular K&N filter for awhile. Up grade down the road to the CAI. So far I have been getting between 18 and 22 MPG on the highway. I guess I can't hope for much more.

Later
Dan
