i own a 2005 ram 1500 bighorn edition. recently i got a set of toyo open country MTs and new goliath wheels, so naturally i felt like playing in the mud, but before i do i have a couple questions. mainly about the axles in 4WD modes. are the locked or are they limited slip? i thought that they are limited slip in 2 wheel drive and locked an 4wd mode for maximum traction. any info or help on the subject would be appreciated. P.S. everything is stock on the truck

the newer dodges are limited slip no matter what 4wd mode you are in, the reason they did this is because most poeple do not go offroading they only use 4wd in snow or other bad conditions, if they were locked all the time in 4wd when you take a corner on pavement the inside wheel would skip because its not moving as fast as the outside one. it is still ok to mud with limited slip, it does decent enough just dont go completely crazy with it, especially since you are not lifted

i completely agree however they do sell a vacuum powered diff locker for your truck for about 150. but if you want to get into mudding i suggest a lift you will be much happier with your rig.
