I'll answer tonight. Gas cap is first stop. Make sure to tighten it till it clicks, don't refuel with truck running. Check the center of cap for rust stains. The rest will be posted later.

P0442- Evap. Leak Monitor Medium Leak Detected.
First check I explained already. Your next step is a visual inspection. Find the Purge Solenoid in the LF corner of the engine compartment. It's next to the IPM (Fuse Block). Now follow the hoses/lines back, inspecting primarily the rubber connecting hoses. Any split hoses need to be fixed/replaced. Most common places they split is the hoses connected to the service port. Even if they don't show external dry cracking, see if they easily pull off. If they do, look inside of the hose, you will see cracks. Now, another place, that doesn't really cause an Evap. leak, but affects purge solenoid operation, is the Purge Solenoid vacuum connection on the Throttle body. If it is starting to split, cut it back and reinstall.
Under the truck, by the front of the fuel tank, is the Evaporative Emissions Canister. Check the hose connections to the canister, and the Leak Detection Pump. Check the canister for physical damage, especially around it's mounting pins. As far as possibly leaks on top of the tank, that is a rarity, so don't worry about that for now. If there are no issues found on a visual inspection, disconnect the hoses at the purge solenoid. Connect a hand vacuum pump to the CAN (canister) side of the purge solenoid, and apply 11 in/hg. of vacuum. It should hold this and not slowly bleed down. If it bleeds down, you need a purge solenoid.
Now beyond this, if the purge solenoid is good, the next step involves a specialized device that either applies 1 in/hg. of pressure to the fuel/evap. system, or injects smoke into it to find the leak. You also need a scan tool capable of sealing and pressurizing the evap system when the truck is running to correctly test the system. So... if you don't find anything obvious as I described, you'll have to pass it on to a professional.
Hope this helps and was easy to understand.

I've got the same problem with my truck too. When I yanked the cannister all the hoses were rotted. I can't find exact replacements and the ones I bought don't fit right, so the problem is back.
Any idea where I can get the right size hoses?

your best bet is to go to local parts store and tell them what hose you need for what kind of truck they can search it

The dealership. They usually stock those hoses if they're replaced often enough.
