Mike,
On the LX models, it is suggested to change the thermostat to a 180 degree when installing the Diablo Predator. Should I do the same for my 06 Ram? Why or why not?
Thanks!
Scott

We have never really suggested that to anyone.
We give you the ability to run whatever T-stat you want to run, by giving control over the electric fans, but it is up to each user how they'd like their car to run.
My only advice is not to go too cold, as these motors like some heat in them for optimal power output.
Thanks
Mike

i changed my thermo on my 03 to a 180 and noticed a bit of a performance gain based on the logic a cool motor gains horsepower also for me lots of towing in the summer kept engine noticably cooler was also chipped with a super chips tuner was a great improvment rob out

I have a 180 in my ram. When it gets real cold(under 20*) it throws a code every now and then. The rams have a clutch fan unlike the LX's so you can't do much in the way of using the fan to help control temps.

LOL, wasn't thinking clearly when I made that post...
Is the CEL like a P0128 code or something?
We have been able to disable that in the cars, if anyone wants to try it out, please email me a copy of your last tune written and we'll fix it up...
Thanks

Hey Mike,
My original question about the thermostat was more of guidance for if you suggest I do it. If I change the thermostat in the ram, as well as my SRT charger, it would be for 180 degree units. I was looking for if this needs to be done. I understand the fan settings can be adjusted with the predator, but am curious if that will prematurly wear my fans or any other systems. It would seem swapping the thermostat would be the better option to electrical parts running sooner and longer. I was looking for your expertise in tuning and testing with other 6.1/5.7 models as well as diablo's history. Thanks for your help.

Not quite the 220° or so that many of the factory calibrations call fro, but in the 190° to 200° range generally.
It's not worth trying to convince the world of that though these days, cause it just starts internet drama...lol.
We have seen cars with 160 stats in them actually lose power on the dyno as a result of not running at optimal temperatures.
