Howdy,
Found myself cruising the internet for information about o2 sensors on dodges and this website confirmed what I was suspecting was wrong with my dodge and its idle problems. So I figured this would be a handy website to be a member of.
I own a 1996 dodge 2500 v10 8.0L and I love it. She was the first truck I bought on my own at the age of 19, and 4 years later she is still doing her job.
Never had a owner for longer then a couple months (car-fax) and I soon figured why with the gas mileage :) But I've never owned anything that got better then 11mpg (77 Chevy camaro 454, & 1968 dodge pickup) so I really don't know what I'm missing out on.
If I could of afforded a diesel at that age, I would had bought one, I shell out just as much money for parts and maintenance anyways.
I do get a load of crap from a lot of people for the v10 aspect, but she does her job, and does it well, pulls my horse trailers with ease (just watch her drink the gas up) and never has left me stranded. Only hassle when it comes to maintenance is reaching back for that 5th spark plug is such a b****
I've looked into trading her in for a new truck but I'm in college and plan on being in it for 7 more years (vet school) So the logic of paying off a truck loan in vet school is not appealing to me. I'm keeping her and just doing the work that needs to be done to keep her in fine shape. I do almost all the work myself if I can handle it and I think I'll find this website very helpful, espically when all the guys I ask for advise just tell me to get a Ford.
Right now shes looking at getting a new tranny, got to love dodge for that.. Figured I'd get it rebuilt to be more powerful so I never have to deal with it again, and possibly a new door. Driver door hung ever so slightly and parked her on a steep incline and closed it cracking the door frame...Weld job is keeping her in tack right now, might have to post those pictures.
I enjoy customizing trucks and I'm putting a lot of time and effort into making her one of a kind. Just re-did the pin-stripping, and changing toolbox and bed rails to black instead of chrome, not a fan of all the red and chrome pickups driving around, red and black for her.
Rino-lining the bottom half of the truck, rocks have chipped up the paint. Grille Guard, lights..etc a train horn would just be icing on the cake!
She already draws attention way before you can see the flame red dodge coming down the street. 6inch lift on 35 inch dick cepek tires, true dual exhaust all the way to the headers with no caddies (Montana don't have emissions) and in place of those 18inch glass packs, shes big, shes loud and she draws attention.
I finally got fed up with people associating me with driving the red diesel I just took the v10 2500 decals off anyways.
Not very impressing when a guy hits on you asking about your diesel and your standing next to your v10 decals...good job.
Too add even more humor I'm seriously looking at throwing a Cummings sticker somewhere on the truck.
Okay writing a novel here. That's my truck in a nutshell and like any truck enthusiast I could go all day talking about her. Looking forward to expanding my knowledge and probably further more asking myself why I'm going to vet school and not going to be a mechanic..
