Hello- looking at Extang brand and others, want to put a soft cover of the type with the clamp on rails on the bed of our '03 shortbed quad cab. Don't want to spend a mint but don't want a flimsy POS either! Prefer snaps over velcro, I have not seen a velcro type that holds up well.
Can anyone make a recommendation?

Well, Access and Lorado as well as Extang make the cover I want, but every time I come up with the tree hunnert and fiddy bucks for one, something comes up..... wife's car barfs a water pump, hours cut at work..... just the way life rolls I suppose!

This thread is over 2 months old, so you may have already bought a tonneau. I just put an Extang Black Max on my Ram. It's a snap-style soft cover that rolls up, and it has a lifetime frame, 7-year tarp warranty. I had one on my 2004 Titan for a couple of years and it held up great. Search around on the web for the Black Max; it's priced at $233 just about everywhere, so look for a free shipping site. Got mine at 4wheelonline dot com, and they threw in a free tailgate seal as well as a bottle of cleaner for the cover.

No I have not bought one yet, the other half says this year we will have one so the christmas presents don't get wet (last year in totes in the open bed)
How does the snap type do in cold weather?

Not bad. Extang's clamps have two mounting points for the cross rails: a lower position for warm weather when the tarp is more pliable, and an upper position for cold weather when it's a bear to stretch the tarp enough to snap it. This system works very well. It's a nice tonneau for the money.

Well I just ordered the Extang Tuff Tonno from 4 wheelonline (Thanks for the tip BigRedHemi) -they had great price and free shipping.
I was going to go with the black max but really did not like the snaps and the advantage of accessing the front of the bed was nice, but realistically it's a 4x4 and a bit tall to reach in there anyway, and due to the wife's experiences with family jeeps she does not care for snaps if they are not needed.
The Tuff tonno uses the lip in groove type seal and was only ten bucks more than the Black Max, has a ten year tarp warranty and a lifetime frame warranty. Looks quicker and easier to open and roll up too.
