Just spent a futile day trying to fix a rear end squeak in my 05 1500, 2WD. It sounds like a brake noise, but after totally disassembling, cleaning, and putting everything back together, it'd still there! I had the truck up on stands, and putting it in drive it makes the noise. Putting it in reverse it makes a slightly diferent sound. It is kind of a cross between a squeak and a creak. Everything I looked at seemed perfect, including the u-joints. Truck has 61000 on it, and has been very much babied, haven't really hauled anything with it, and haven't towed more than few times (1 quad trailer, less than 600lbs total).
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Was it the park brake assembly you disassembled and reassembled or just the service brakes??? The park brake shoes can make a cycling noise when driving if the linning has delaminated from the shoe.

I tore the whole parking brake assembly apart, on both sides. Scuffed the shoes, cleaned everything. Shoes looked good, lots of material left. Pads had lots of material left also, scuffed with sandpaper. Now I am starting to wonder if maybe the pads are just too old? Even though there is material there, might it have gone through too many heat cycles, and it's gonna make noise no matter what?
All rear brake parts are the original stuff that came on the truck.

Another thing that can make brake noise is if there is a rust ridge on the edges of the brake surface. The pads rub against this ridge and cause a noise.
