Newbie ready to purchase

Hi,just joined. I'm looking to buy a '99-'01 Ram 1500 4x4, but also considering an '02 which is moderately over my budget. I prefer the look of the pre '02 so I'm wondering how much better the '02 is in terms of performance, reliability and build quality than the '99-'01? Thanks for any advice. Ken

2002 up has a better ride quality because they went to independent front suspension. The 5.9L engine was carried over, but if you go with a 4.7L, and it was serviced regularly you won't be disappointed. Build quality improved 2002 up.
