I wonder how many 2000 year Rams have their dashboards falling apart and if anybody has replaced one?

I've honestly never seen that in person. Only online on videos of dissatisfied customers.

I think it is a high heat and lots of sun problem.Mine started with little cracks and now large sections are about to cave in.

I replaced one under warranty, several years ago.... of course I have had many apart to replace the evaporater cores/heater cores. Not really that difficult to do.

Is it an all day affair or can it be done in 5-6 hours?

For a novice, I'd say around 3-4 hours. You have to consider you have to switch everything over to the new dash. Not hard, just allot to do.

So the top of the dash and the rest of the dash are one piece?Except around instrument cluster which has a bezel. Thanks for your info

this is a failry common problem with our rams. The dashes start cracking along the front where they mount to the cab... the rest is history.

You can buy new ones and they cost a few bucks to replace but I have even heard of them breaking. I haven't had it happen on mine but then again mine is usually in the shade most of the time.

Yes the cracks started where dash is mounted at the base of the windshield.Parts look they will be over $500.00, as the bezel is cracked also.

we have a 1998 and 2 2001 ram truck and the 1998 has been broke down and sitting for over a year due to a front axle issue and it is not covered or shaded by anything and the dash is fine

The 2 other trucks have never had any problems either

I would say just use some armoral or tire wet make a cleaning solution for dashes and clean every month or 2

I have a 99 1500 ram sport and a 99 2500 ram sport. The 1500 has the black dash with the dark interior...the dash is shot to the point i lost a large notepad within the void. My 2500 has the tan interior with no problems. I think it has a lot to do with the high carbon the manufacturer uses to color the dashboard. it doesnt take kindly to UV rays, so we all found out. As far as I know, I havent met anyone with the tan interior problems

my interior is about the color gray that is in the background on this board(darker gray) and when I cleaned it up, No cracks and looks brand new. 1995 1500 SLT

I've had a 2001, 2000 and currently a 1999 Ram and the only issue I've had with the dash in any of them is the fold down cupholder failing - which was in issue in all 3 trucks. They are always parked outside and in the sun and I've never seen this cracking issue, but I use a cleaner to keep the dash clean and it also keeps the dash material soft (and no, its not ArmorAll - that crap dries the dash out and will cause cracking).

Yeah, need to do mine too. I'd like to swap it for a new one instead of the cover. Guess I'll head to the dealer and order a dash and bezel and do it myself.
