Angry fuel problem

My 1980 dodge 318 has a fuel issue, I have installed a new fuel pump on the truck but it will not draw any fuel. I had run a hose from the pump to a cherry can and it will not draw anything. My father and I had rebuilt the top end wit hnew timing chain, gears, cam, lifters, pushrods, waterpump, replaced the old intake and carb with an edelbrock intake and edelbrock 5oo cfm 4barrel carb.

WHy wont the mechanical fuel pump draw fuel???? it is touching the fuel lobe and all is rotating as it should...
Can someone help????

Was it a universal replacement??? Many of those pumps have changeable inlets and outlets. You may have the inlet fitting on the outlet side of the pump. Been there, done that.

Default fuel problem

i ran into that on my plymouth duster, tried everything till i finally took a air compressor and blew thru the fuel line back to the tank. than it ran great till that problem showed up again! than i dropped the tank to find a bunch of build up on the bottom of tank. if your lines are not reversed? try blowing through the line and hook it back up. see if it starts than. also double check that your timing is set right.

My experts found my fuel problem had to do with a vent hose somewhere around the gas tank. Seemed it had split and wasn't working properly?
(my truck wouldn't start) All good now. I guess needed to lower the tank to find this. Cleaned my tank while down and improved the hoses.
Air is your enemy when it comes to fuel feed.

thanks Steve
