Default 4 bbl card and intake??

Hey all, just picked up a 1987 dodge power ram a few days ago. I love the truck and actually I have been waiting 11 years to get the thing, ever since I was 16 to be exact. Now I know this thing isn't meant to go fast and this isn't my intent, but it could use a few more horses when I need to get up and go. What I wanna know is how cheap/expensive is it to get a good 4bbl carb and intake to go on it. Anybody do anything like this to their Ram? What's a good brand of carb to go with, what size? I plan on doing the exhaust hopefully next year as Im gonna put a front axle in it this summer so I got a 4x4 for next winter. Anybody got another good idea to build a bit of reasonably priced horsepower? Im open to suggestions.

I read on this forum that an intake and 4bbl carb from a 360 will fit on the 318, anybody know if this will effect gas mileage at all? I would assume it would if I was bagging on it, but if a guy drives it nice will it be thirstier?

upgrad the ignition. your truck came with what they call a lean burn ignition.( crap and not worth my time to explain why) get the electronic ignition upgrade kit from summit. not much more than a 100 bucks. then i would find (junk yard) a 360 ram and bolt up its 4 bbl intake and carb. should wake that ole girl right up on the cheap. headers and a free flow exhaust prob help a lil too. just keep in mind that you are limited by the stock heads and compression of the 318.
